# Introduction

*This section might be updated based on the latest development in the SAGE consortium. Since the project runs till 2028, the final GDDS deliverable is expected to have additional information on these sections.*

The Business Frameworks of the Green Deal Data Space (GDDS) set out the economic and value-creation rationale of the data space – why it exists and how it delivers value to its participants. They describe the value propositions, the data space offering, and the economic models needed to turn data availability into tangible value for stakeholders, from real estate owners and logistics providers to CO₂ consultants and municipalities.

This framework helps participants understand how value is created, distributed, and sustained through data sharing. It covers the development of a financially sustainable model, the packaging of data offerings, and the clear identification of roles for data providers, intermediaries, and operators.

In the GDDS context, business value extends beyond commercial gain; it also encompasses environmental and societal impacts, aligning with EU Green Deal priorities. This means supporting biodiversity, circularity, climate change mitigation & adaptation and zero pollution.

This section breaks down the core business design components necessary to enable trusted, interoperable, and value-driven use cases. It offers practical guidance to help participants structure their data space offering in a way that maximises stakeholder engagement and ensures long-term sustainability.

Readers can expect this section to cover three areas: the Business Model (the value propositions, revenue logic, and sustainability of the data space), the Use Cases (the concrete use cases that are piloted where participants create value from data sharing), and the Data Space Offering (how data, services, and applications are made available to participants). Those seeking to understand the purpose, scope, and value drivers of the GDDS should start here.
