# Governance Playbook

The Governance Playbook describes the governance model of the Green Deal Data Space (GDDS) – how the data space is governed, by whom, and through which bodies.

It outlines the Organisational Form, Governance Model, and Governance Authority, defining the structural foundation and decision-making mechanisms essential for the effective governance and operation of the GDDS. The governance model of the Green Deal Data Space (GDDS) was developed through an iterative, research-informed, and co-creative process, reflecting both best practices from existing European data spaces and the specific needs of the GDDS ecosystem. As a result, the SAGE consortium proposed a governance model for the GDDS that is responsive, transparent, and representative of its participants.

Readers seeking to understand the governance bodies, their mandates, and how authority and decision-making are distributed across the data space should start here; the detailed rules these bodies define and enforce are set out in the GDDS Rulebook that follows.
